Dr David Livingstone was paddling in a dugout canoe through swift rapids towards the roar and rising cloud of mist suspended above a cliff over which the whole of the mile wide Zambezi River plunged. The ‘Makoro’ (canoe) paddlers skillfully landed him on ‘Goat Island’, which is now known as Livingstone Island right on the lip of the chasm. A few steps through the small rainforest on 16th November 1855, and he gazed upon one of the most spectacular sights in the world – ‘Mosi-o-Tunya’ (the smoke that thunders) which he named in honour of his Queen as The Victoria Falls.   A dip in the Devil’s Pool lets you peer over a 103-metre-high precipice onto the thundering Victoria Falls as they plunge into the gorge below. Enclosed by sloping rock sides that make it much safer than it seems, the pool’s surreal beauty is one-of-a-kind and no visitor to Livingstone should miss the adrenalin rush of a dip here.   Itinerary: Depart by boat for Livingstone Island from the Livingstone island Launch Site. Our guides will let you in on the incredible history of the island as you follow the footsteps of Dr David Livingstone all the way to the edge of the waterfall. Depending on river heights, prepare to be drenched in the spray from the Falls or watch a rainbow stretch across the open gorge. Those who wish can even take a dip in Devil’s Pool or Angel's Pool, and everybody completes the experience with a 5-star gourmet meal prepared for you on the island itself.   This activity is seasonal and closes when waters are too high for the safety of guests.

Return boat transfer from the Dry Manzi jetty to Livingstone Island
A guided tour of the island with explanation on the flora & fauna, the history and the geology of the Victoria Falls
In low waters (approx end August to beginning December) guests can swim in a rock pool on the edge of the Falls accompanied by guide.

Please note this is a low water activity. For your safety Devil’s Pool is open during the drier months of the year, usually between mid August and mid January, when the Zambezi water levels are low enough for swimmers to take the plunge.

Children from 8 years to 11 years can visit the island and cannot swim.
Children from 12 years and above can visit the island and swim.
